The program runs year around and is multi-faceted: in the summer, staff work with students daily in skill-building workshops, followed by a mentored work experience where the student is placed in a job with one of our partner employers. During the school year, S2C provides an after-school academic enhancement program and a mentored work experience. The program has proven success in increasing the academic performance and career readiness for program participants, while also helping them refine skills such as goal-setting, organization, decision-making, resume-writing, and interviewing.
S2C partners with Pittsburgh Public Schools and various community groups for recruitment, UPMC for job placement and shadowing opportunities, the University of Pittsburgh for tutoring, and Carlow University/ Sisters of Mercy for facilities. In partnership with OPDC’s long standing job development program, JobLinks, S2C boasts a 100% graduation rate and 99% college attendance rate after graduation.
